Consulting Manifesto

As a consultant I will always share risk with you to facilitate a trustworthy relationship. It’s unfair of me to expect your complete trust unless I too have something to lose in the relationship.

As a consultant I have the right to charge premium prices directly proportionate to the value that I create for you. By sharing the risk of failures with you it is only fair that I also share in the successful outcomes as well.

As a consultant I have the ability to question or say no to anything that interferes with our mutually agreed upon objectives. When a scope of work changes without a significant impact to the desired business outcome then focus will be lost, success will be at risk, and budgets will be surpassed.

As a consultant I am obligated, regardless of repercussions, to bring challenges, issues, and risks to your attention. I always take it upon myself to keep your best interests in mind, even when it’s something you don’t want to hear or when others within your organization don’t agree.

As a consultant looking in from the outside, I will discover insights for you that would be otherwise invisible to your team. It’s not that your team lacks skill, it’s just that they’re stuck in the day to day and don’t have the breathing room to see the bigger picture.

As a consultant I will diagnose issues and fully understand challenges before providing implementation tactics and strategies. Providing a solution before knowing all the facts doesn’t guarantee success, and will waste valuable time and resources.

As a consultant my hands are not bound by your corporate structure, enabling me to speak honestly to all members of the team regardless of where they fall on the organizational chart. By keeping the good of your organization in mind, everyone within it becomes my peer.

As a consultant I can help more organizations by not limiting myself to any single one. By limiting myself to a single organization I risk getting too close to the internal workings and losing my objective point of view.
